Our Trip 2018

Travel to Japan

Our first trip to Japan was in June/July 2018.

This is a brief look at our travels.
.
We booked all our accommodation before leaving home. It was a mixture of Hotels, Airbnb's and Ryokans - so knew how long we were staying in each place.
We also purchased Japan Rail Passes as our main form of transport and could use the bullet trains when covering long distances.
.
Our holiday started in Tokyo and the Hotel was opposite the gardens of the Imperial Palace which was fantastic.
We loved Tokyo - the gardens, shopping, the people - everything - including a day trip to Nikko.
From Tokyo we caught a bullet train which took us most of the way to Hakone. Loved Hakone, especially the Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands.
.

.

From here we travelled into central Honshu which is more traditional Japan - visiting Takayama, Furukawa, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa.
We particularly wanted to visit Kanazawa because of Kenroku-en, listed as one of the top 3 gardens in Japan.
.
Kenroku-en, the original outer garden of Kanazawa castle, was amazingly beautiful - a garden centred around trees and water features.
There are several other stunning gardens within the grounds of Kanazawa Castle.
.

.Kyoto

Kyoto
Kyoto had been high on our list of places to visit and the week here didn't disappoint.
A city of temples and gardens, restaurants, theme cafes and markets, laneway shopping with locally made products and tranquil walks.
Our traditional Japanese Airbnb in Gion was superb.
.
A short train trip took us to Nara, a city of deer, temples and beautiful gardens.  From here we went up into the mountains to Koyasan, the spiritual centre of Japan. Unforgettable!
.
On returning to Nara we hired a car and drove to Mikasato via Owase on the Kii Peninsula. It is a tiny fishing village, isolated and beautiful. Pristine forests, rugged coastline with sheltered inlets.
.
After 3 days we were headed to Shikoku by ferry from Wakayama. This didn't happen as a violent storm tore through the area. We spent the night in Kobe instead.
.
Forgoing Shikoku and Okayama, a bullet train took us to Hiroshima.
Without doubt the most emotional and memorable city of our trip.
After a day trip to the island of Miyajima it was back on the bullet train to Narita for our last night in Japan.
.
The next morning saw us on a JAL flight home.

  1. Howdy! I know this is kind of off-topic however I had to ask.
Does building a well-established website like yours take a
massive amount work? I am brand new to blogging however I do write in my journal every
day. I’d like to start a blog so I will be able to share my
own experience and views online. Please let me know if
you have any kind of suggestions or tips for new aspiring blog owners.
    Appreciate it!

    1. Setting up this website has taken quite a bit of time. Once I had chosen the theme and set up the format, I published and continually update and alter.
I think the most important thing I have discovered is to plan your categories and how individual articles will link before you start. I also look at other websites to see features that look good and then research to see if it is possible for me to implement them in my theme.
Research online takes time but has provided answers to many of my questions.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

  2. Thank you, I have recently been searching for information about this subject for a while and
yours is the best I’ve came upon till now. But, what concerning the bottom line?

Are you certain about the source?

  3. I am 22 years of age, for this reason I had to find the corporation, which provides motor vehicles for drivers under 25. And indeed, I located it. Sixt rental-car company is extremely good! Mostly I loved my pick up procedure. Though, firstly, it was not simple to get to my car. The employees were polite..however, not professional enough.

    1. We had a great experience when hiring a car in Japan. We used Ekicar rentals and they were incredibly helpful. They gave us a refund when bad weather closed roads where we were to travel on the 4th day.
But as the name suggests, Japannanna, we are a little older than 25 and had no difficulty finding a company

  4. Fantastic blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a
little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely
confused .. Any tips? Appreciate it! https://truelightketo.org/

    1. I decided to go with Bluehost and paid for 3 years.
It means I have my own domain name and greater flexibility.
Good luck. There is certainly a lot to consider and learn.

  5. Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re
using? I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs
and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but

    1. Hello,

I chose WordPress. It seems to be one of the most popular and there are plenty of How-to articles online. I agree there is a lot to learn.
      Good luck
